Personal Information


Professor Muhlendorf is a partner in the White Collar Defense & Government Investigations Group at Wiley Rein LLP. His practice focuses on securities fraud, defense procurement fraud, and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) matters.Prior to joining Wiley Rein, Professor Muhlendorf was an Assistant Chief in the Securities and Financial Fraud Unit at the United States Department of Justice's (DOJ) Fraud Section, where he supervised federal prosecutors in the investigation and prosecution of complex white-collar matters. From 2010 to 2013, he was a Trial Attorney at the Fraud Section, investigating and prosecuting securities fraud, Investment Advisers Act fraud, obstruction of justice, money laundering, and mail and wire fraud cases in district courts across the country. Prior to joining DOJ, Professor Muhlendorf served for six years in the Enforcement Division of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, first as Senior Counsel and then as a member of the Market Abuse Unit. While at the SEC, he investigated and charged cases involving market manipulation, accounting fraud, insider trading and FCPA violations. Prior to the SEC, he worked for four years as a litigation associate at Steptoe and Johnson in Washington and London and clerked for United States Magistrate Judge John M. Facciola.
