Personal Information


Catherine Duval is a partner at litigation boutique Zuckerman Spaeder LLP and an Adjunct Professor of Law. At Zuckerman, she advises law firms and attorneys on professional liability issues and counsels clients in high stakes litigation and congressional or government investigations.

Professor Duval served as counsel in the Obama Administration regarding oversight and investigations, including Benghazi and email-related issues at the Department of State and, before that, as Counselor to the Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service. Prior to her public service, she practiced for several years at Williams & Connolly LLP, where she represented companies, firms, and individuals in a variety of high-stakes litigation matters. For several years, Professor Duval served as a Hearing Committee member for the District of Columbia Board of Professional Responsibility helping resolve attorney ethics and discipline cases.

Professor Duval is a Georgetown alum, having graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Liberal Studies. She graduated cum laude from Duke University School of Law and clerked for the Honorable Fred I. Parker of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
